Encore Auditions

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for our 2023-2024 Encore Entertainment Company. We are hosting auditions for Singers on May 15 and 17/18. Pit Band auditions and Crew interview information will be posted soon. We are looking forward to another great year of growth, learning, and spectacular performances.

Encore is a great place to:

  • Learn more about dancing, singing, playing your instrument, or technical theater
  • Make new friends
  • Travel to compete and perform at other schools
  • Participate in our Encore Holiday Extravaganza
  • Get a PE Waiver for singer-dancers
  • You CAN play a sport and be in other school activities while participating in Encore successfully! (We have an average of 2 rehearsals per week)

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

Singers: Have you been preparing your one minute of an art song and Broadway song? If not, now is the time to start – talk with your voice teacher or check out the last page of the Handbook for song choices and practice recording links. Let Mr. Skidmore know if you need more help.

Take some time to review our Encore Handbook with your family. Encore has a history of high-level work, but this can only continue if we all know what to expect. This handbook contains important information about our policies, dates, and current fee structure. If you have questions, please ask a director BEFORE you audition.

AUDITION STEP 1:

Tell us about yourself. Singer-dancer candidates, please complete this form as soon as possible. A vocal audition scheduling link will be sent to those who complete the form.

AUDITION STEP 2:

Practice! You can and should prepare your two vocal selections in advance. The goal is for your 50-second (up to 1 minute) performance of each song to be a reflection of your best singing. The dance audition will be taught on Monday the 15th (3pm) to the group. To prepare for the dance audition, consider doing some stretching and cardio activities from PE class or YouTube dance/exercise videos. While you cannot rehearse the actual dance audition material before the event, you can prepare your body and mind to be more successful.

Print (or pick up) this form and complete it before your audition! This is your permission form, so please bring it to the dance audition on May 15.

AUDITION STEP 3:

Come to the dance audition in the choir room on Monday, May 15, from 3-5 pm. Be dressed comfortably and ready to move. Have fun meeting some of the other candidates. Do YOUR best – don’t worry or compare yourself to others.

AUDITION STEP 4:

Come to your personal vocal audition. Only the directors will be in with you during your vocal audition. Some students like to dress up for the vocal audition, but it isn’t required. We will have you sing up to one minute of both your art song and Broadway song. If you would like for an accompanist to play with you (highly recommended), please bring music with cuts clearly labeled.

Song selections for those without a voice instructor:

“Homeward Bound” (vs 1; end at m. 26)Accompaniment (for learning) (the real thing)
“A Whole New World” (first verse/chorus)Accompaniment (folder link -school Gmail)

That’s all – review the handbook, complete the form, and participate in the dance and vocal auditions. After that, take a moment to breathe and be proud of yourself. Results will be sent to provided email addresses and posted in the MHS choir trophy case when ready. Thank you for sharing with us. Thank you for your interest in Encore. We look forward to another great year!

Questions?… ask BEFORE you audition – Encore is a full year commitment
