Thank you for your interest in auditioning for our 2020-2021 Encore Entertainment Company. We are hosting auditions now for Singers and Pit Band members. Crew interview information will be posted when available (look for it sometime in mid-May). We are looking forward to another great year of growth, learning, and spectacular performances.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
Singers: Have you been preparing your art song and Broadway song? If not, now is the time to start – talk with your voice teacher, ask Mr. Skidmore for ideas, or browse this site a bit for ideas .
Take some time to review our Encore Handbook with your family. Encore has a history of high level work, but this can only continue if we all know what to expect. This handbook contains important information about our policies, dates, and current fee structure. If you have questions, please ask a director BEFORE you audition. The remote audition process is new to all of us. As such, we have some information available in this document (SINGERS) and this document (PIT BAND).
AUDITION STEP 1:
Tell us about yourself. Singer-dancer candidates, please complete this form. Pit Band candidates, please complete this form. Those who are interested in Crew, please complete this form. You may express interest in more than one part of Encore. Crew interviews will happen after the list of Singer-dancers and Pit Band members have been posted. If you are interested only in crew, you only need to complete the form at this point (after you submit your form, your application is finished for now).
AUDITION STEP 2:
Practice! This year, especially, there are fewer surprises. Singers, when the video is available, you will even be able to practice your choreography audition as much as you want. You also have time to acquire your accompaniment recordings and practice well for your voice audition. Pit band candidates, you have more time than usual to practice your excerpts and prepare your answers to the questions.
AUDITION STEP 3:
Begin recording your Flipgrid videos. Here is the link to our GRID. Please do not wait until the last minute – solve any potential technology issues early – the due date is the final due date. It may even be helpful to create some practice recordings (you can discard them when you are done) if you aren’t familiar with Flipgrid. Have someone help you create your video if you are struggling with camera placement. Only submit one video in each assignment; be sure you include everything necessary in your video. Two important things to remember – you must login with your medinabees.org gmail to submit a video and your video will disappear after submitted (don’t let this worry you). Singer-dancer candidates, please watch the video on Flipgrid (topic focus) for your vocal audition assignment.
AUDITION STEP 4:
Before you click next a second time, watch and listen to your video submission – it will play it back for you. Did the sound come through? Does the video look ok? Once you are confident with your submission, click next, take the “selfie” and submit it!
AUDITION STEP 5:
Singer-dancer candidates only: The choreography video will be sent to you by May 1. You will have until morning of the May 13 submission deadline to practice if you wish. Practice until you feel like you can give it your best shot – watch the choreographer carefully. Find the “Dance Audition” Flipgrid assignment, create your video, preview your video, and submit your video. It must be submitted by noon on May 13. Don’t be afraid – just do your best.
That’s all – review the handbook, complete the form, and submit any necessary videos. After that, take a moment to breathe and be proud of yourself. Results will be sent to provided email addresses when ready. Thank you for sharing with us. Thank you for your interest in Encore. We look forward to another great year!
